Jonathan Aderhold, LMHC
It's a courageous thing to seek therapy for yourself or your relationship, and I know how hard it can be to reach out for help when you've tried so hard to keep it all together. Maybe you feel confused or frustrated with your partner's behavior, or even with your own. Few things can compare to the importance of your relationship with yourself and your relationship with your romantic partner — which is why we can feel so distressed when we perceive a threat to either. My goal as a therapist is to help you create understanding about what divides or obstructs you, and foster a sense of security to express yourself openly, to mend old wounds, and to reestablish connection.
I've worked in a variety of roles throughout my career and have had the privilege of helping many individuals and families of diverse backgrounds. I've worked as a child and family therapist, an individual adult counselor, and as a couples counselor.
I practice couples counseling primarily by applying what I have learned from the Gottman method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I draw from these models because they are backed by extensive research and I have witnessed their effectiveness in applying them in my own marriage. These models have helped me make sense of what strengths were already part of my relationship and have prepared me for how to navigate challenges when they show up. My hope is that you too may feel that security with the person you love most.
